No. 55 most subbed.... for how long?!

ok so it's lame of me to care where I am in the youtube most subscribed list- being in it is enough, but I was number 69 for the longest time, then lately went up to 60, then I saw today that I am one behind *spit* Hotforwords. This makes me uncomfortable, being next to her. Her channel creeps me out- I keep expecting a hoary old man to pop into shot, or give her direction off cam like some sort of dictionary porno thing. The whole thing melds education with porn so much (cause she looks so porny to me!!) that it really just disturbs me. What words are up next? 'ejaacuulasion' *cue a shot of a dictionary jizzing all over her face*. 'neeplez' *cue well placed video thumbnail center shot*.

Anyway, yeah... it weirds me out. Like I have only one way to compete now- act like words turn me on like woah. I'm really not about to do that.

I liked being one or two up from MarkDayComedy cause I could rub it in his face and it was funny!

EDIT: to catchflipside- I know nothing on her channel is pornography! I wasn't trying so suggest that it was, it's just that she LOOKS porny and acts sort of porny. And that I am totally judgy.

the concept behind hotforwords baffles me.

Coming from someone who has put A LOT of time into studying Glamour Photography, none of what Marina has in her videos, on her channel page, or her website would be considered pornography.

A lot of it is risque, yes, but such is the nature of Glamour Photography Though the line between pornography and Glamour Photography is a thin one, there is a recognizable difference.

I don't know Marina personally, so this info is not coming from me to try to defend a friend... it comes from years of studying Glamour Photography.

I could see you doing a pretty wicked parody of this. Drugged out, with sores, giving highly questionable "facts" about overtly sexual words while fearing that the off-camera director will deport you if you don't do exactly what he says... Okay, I'll stop. Sorry.

I felt the need to put in one more comment. This is an excerpt from a book called "Glamour Nude Photography" by Robert & Sheila Hurth:

----------------
Ultimately, a photographer and the viewers of his or her images must determine whether a particular image is art or sexually explicit. The borderline between the two is almost impossible to define, either aesthetically or legally. Indeed, even Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart has stated, "I don't know exactly what pornography is, nor how to describe it, but I know it when I see it."
-----------------

That said, I cannot see Marina's photographs or videos as pornographic in any way. I'm going to include a link to my page on OneModelPlace.com on this comment to show my Glamour work. I don't consider any of it to be pornographic.

onemodelplace.com/bcglamourphoto

If for some reason the above link does not work, this one contains the same photographs (just not as much information about the models): bcglamourphoto.com

She's too masculine looking in the face for me. I looked at one of her vids and was afraid she might be a drag queen.

Let me amend an earlier comment I made. The first comment I made to this blog entry contained the following line, "would be considered pornography." It should have read, "shouldn't be considered pornography."

I apologize for the mix-up.

Last one, I promise. Strike my comment right before this one. For some reason, I'm having trouble reading my own comments today. Once again, I apologize for the confusion.

George Costanza of Seinfeld fame used to 'study' Glamour magazine at his parents house as I recall. :)

I totally get what you're saying... she looks like the cover of a porn film... very trashy :/

Glamour magazine and Glamour Photography are two very different things.

Caring isn't that lame. I periodically check out the standings on some of my favourite subs.

Or is it just that I'm supremo-lame for doing that? You've got me thinking now...

Call it want you want, she looks like she's in porn! There's nothing glamourous about the way she looks imo.

She's too plastic and her fake allure leaves me cold!

Ps Dictionary definition of pornography:

The creative activity (writing or pictures or films etc.) of no literary or artistic value other than to stimulate sexual desire.

So if you think that Reading from the Oxford English Dictionary etc does not really count as "literary value", you can call her videos pornography!

She is not even pretty, and has the most annoying voice. I don't understand why she has that many subscribers. All of her screenshots are clearly photoshopped to death as well.

guess who? said...

yes well, you know all about hoary old men jizzing all over your face dont you?

Really Bryony! This comes as a bit of a suprise. You should know better, with all the nasty insinuations you've had thrown your way - you know: prostitute, scammer etc - you would think you would not want to do the same to someone else! You seem to be trying to indirectly imply Marina has some connection to porn. She is a swimsuit model and has certain look about her - nothing more, nothing less. YOU should really set check points up between your brain and your mouth/hands before you go making nasty little insinuations about people. This a bit nasty, even by your standards. Think about it. You don't like people saying or inferring you're a scammer or a prostitute? OK.

Perhaps the best way to compete is by not competing at all. By completely ignoring the fact that she is one up from you, I think you will pass her up easy. Of course, I'm the kind of person that would root for the underdog, but I feel that because you aren't feeding into the people's "sex sells" ways, you are THAT much better than her.

This is however coming from a girl, and I am in fact subscribed to her. BTW, just to help you one up her, I'm going to unsubscribe.

*switches over to YouTube, and clicks the unsub button on Marina's page.*

See, that puts you one sub over what you were!

I liked learning new words, but that was WAY before she started using the "sex sells" idea. It really is about time I unsub anyway. I don't watch it, and I really don't learn anymore now.

I ran into Hotforwords for the first time this evening and because I like etymology (really, I do - we can't all be normal) I watched a few. And I can't figure her out. She's pretty clearly a professional softcore model or stripper, about 35 or 40 years old, I would say. Her accent and facial features and make me think she's Slavic, which given her command of English means that she's reasonably well educated. Her affect is softcore porn come-on. She says she's doing philology (the study of language) but she's really just doing etymology (word origins). Her level of knowledge is pretty low - the level of a bright layperson with an interest and a good dictionary (about the same as me, in other words). I say "her" but I have no idea who's actually writing the copy. My guess is that she's a hired model for some guy who's running the show. The whole thing is such a strange idea, though, that it's possible she's actually doing it herself. She's very insistent in asking viewers to "register" so that she can send a holiday card. Is there money to be made in gathering up email addresses? But if that's all she's doing, why bother with the etymology stuff? Perhaps there are teacher fetishists who find the whole thing devastatingly sexy? I don't know - the internet is a curious place sometimes.
