Boing Boing: a website review of sorts

Ok... I doubt this is going to mean a great deal to anyone, and its not like I haven't felt like this for a long while but Boingboing.... you used to be so good, and now you annoy me so much that I almost unsubscribe from your RSS everytime i log onto my google reader.

Boing boing, for the uninitiated, is a HUGE website which posts various interesting stuff from around the internet. It always has something that interests me on it, which is why I am hesitant to unsubscribe, but lately (by lately I mean increasingly since I started reading it about 2 years ago) it has committed various annoying as hell things which bug the crap out of me.

I shall list them now.

Cory Doctorow: Stop telling us about your godawful books already. Stop name dropping every author you met at a book launch and telling us how you are a huge fan of their
work. You recently moved to London. Stop telling everyone about how much it sucks. If you think it is so terrible, why do you put up with its various catalogue of disastrous things? Stop posting about your opinions (as fact) on the 'nanny state' and 'erosion of personal freedom' etc that you perceive in Britain.

Quit telling everyone how awful Youtube is. Your arrogant tone about everything is so sickeningly nauseating (yeah i know those mean the same thing... shhh)

BBTV. The videos you guys make suck so much ass, especially since you went on and on about how much youtube sucks. How about watch some youtube videos and you might see how to make non-lame videos.

I don't care about 'steampunk'. At all.

I don't care that you found a picture that looks like Goatse.

I don't care that Cory Doctorow wrote a book.

Please write about a few events that aren't happening in San Francisco.

For the love of god, I do get why DMCA and such are important issues, but please, can't you cut those posts down a little tiny bit? The various copyright issues for countries around the world are interesting but not so interesting as you seem to think they are.

I do not care about Second Life.

I have sent you various links and stuff (maybe 3 or 4 times) and never had a reply, which I think is fair enough, as you must get fuck loads of mail, but you might atleast have some sort of an auto-reply or general 'we probably won't get back to you' notice somewhere.

I do not care about vintage Disney crap.

Obviously you are a bunch of individuals who all have interests that you are going to write about on your website that you own. Fine. But I feel that this site that I used to LOVE, has fallen victim to poor imagination, no more innovation, and laziness on part of you writers. Shame on you!! Find some new stuff to report!

The Lilies lately you have been ever so angry about everything. It's been noticeable the last couple of months (And I know Jackass's pointing that out won't help) but I hope you have a a great Xmas break planned so you can gather your thoughts and kick back. I stll thoroughly enjoy your blog and youtube stuff.

I agree totally actually, I used to read Gizmodo (yeh rather geeky I know!) but it used to be funny, ie take the piss a lot but the editor (Joel I think) left and it went shit after then - he actualy started Boing Boing, so thats why it used to be good - it seems he's doing less on there now too - such a pity!

And yeh Steampunk, what the hell is that, its so laaame!

I've never been on that site before, but their idea of youtube is common, because most people just go to the "video" tab and assume that's all there is to youtube, the most viewed of the day. I have, for a long time, thought that the most discussed should be the default, but then again, it would be a vicious cycle and make it the most viewed. Perhaps the default when clicking the videos tab shoudl be the featured videos, or even a sepearate featured list, like the categorie featured videos?? I don't know, but it sucks.

Cory Doctorow is a bit of a douche, I have to say. He was a guest a few times on a TV show that used to air here in America called The Screen Savers, coming on to talk about copyright law and such, and he always seemed a bit arrogant and snooty back then. These days he's occasionally a guest on a podcast called This Week in Tech (done by people that used to host and be on Screen Savers, actually), where he pretty much annoys me greatly with his banter of all the places he's traveled to for "work" and all the people he knows. I don't even think some of the other regular guests are particularly crazy about him, based on some of their reactions.

Anyhoo, I think he tries to do some good things with the EFF, if he even still works with them, so that's all fine and dandy, but as a person, I just have no love for him.

Yeah, there is a lot of crap on there now but that link they had a few weeks back about the 10 Most Badass Bible Verses made me more forgivable.
